Hopefully you rooted and flashed a ROM made for your phone. Find the current GAPPS for your phone and flash that to your phone that should fix the Market and Gmail working like they should.
A factory reset (IF you backed up you stock rom) should only put you back to stock.
DO not skip steps when flashing roms, at least until you know what you are doing. When the steps include things like wiping cache and ROM space, DO IT.
